Tales of the march

Tales of the March is a groundbreaking virtual reality experience that immerses viewers in one of the most harrowing yet underrepresented episodes of the Holocaust: the death marches of 1944–1945.

Directed by Stefano Casertano and produced by Daring House in collaboration with Studio Deussen, the project combines a powerful immersive film with a virtual exhibition, offering a profound exploration of memory, trauma, and survival. Developed through the Biennale College Cinema VR program, Tales of the March premiered in the official selection of the Venice Immersive section at the 80th Venice International Film Festival, and has since been presented at major festivals across Europe and Asia.

The experience is structured in two parts. The first is a 360° cinematic journey following Eithan, a fictional character inspired by real survivor testimonies, during one of the forced marches. The narrative unfolds through long, unbroken takes that emphasize the psychological and physical endurance of the prisoners—who belonged to all persecuted minorities, including Jews, Roma, political prisoners, and others.

The second part is a virtual exhibition that provides essential historical context. Visitors can explore documents, photographs, and testimonies sourced from museums and institutions around the world, offering a deeper understanding of this tragic chapter of history.

Distributed by Rai Cinema, Tales of the March is available through the Rai Cinema Channel VR app, and has also been featured in the Rai Cinema metaverse on The Nemesis platform during international remembrance events.

In January 2024, the project was also presented at the Museo Nazionale del Cinema in Turin, as part of the official commemorations for International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Through the fusion of immersive storytelling and educational content, Tales of the March ensures that the voices of the survivors—and the memory of all those who endured—continue to resonate for future generations.
