Body/Memory is a narrative virtual reality project in development, supported by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg. The piece addresses cancer among young women and is based on illustrations by Carlo Stanga, adapted into navigable VR spaces. The story follows a young woman from the first medical doubts to the diagnosis and through treatment, tracing how her relationships, body, and sense of time change. Viewers move through a sequence of rooms—clinical, domestic, and imagined—where medical routines, fragments of conversations, and private notes appear as spatialized objects. Each scene invites simple interactions that reveal memories and choices, focusing on everyday gestures rather than spectacle.
In 2024, Body/Memory was selected for the Venice Production Bridge at the Venice International Film Festival. The presentation introduced the project’s structure: an opening that reconstructs the moment of uncertainty; a middle section that alternates hospital procedures with moments of ordinary life; and a final passage that looks at recovery, ongoing follow-ups, and the return to work and friendship. Throughout, Stanga’s drawings are used as the visual backbone—architectures, objects, and characters are derived from his line work and color fields—while the sound design combines clinical signals, ambient noise, and recorded testimony to anchor the experience in the everyday reality of illness.
